Our Calendar of Events for 2019
Indoor meetings are held from September to May on the 2nd Tuesday of the month. These are illustrated talks on a wide range of general specialist, local and world-wide natural history subjects.
Meetings are held at the Fleur-de-lis hall (off Gatefield Lane, between Preston Street and Newton Road). Doors open at 7:30pm, our meetings start at 8pm and normally conclude at 10pm. Free parking is available in the central car park (off Bank St by the Swimming pool) from 7pm. Outdoor meetings (field trips) are held at least once a month throughout the year, mostly at weekends but occasionally on other days, with some evening trips in the Summer. These trips are mainly local and to areas of interest relevant to the season.

David Raines Memorial Walk. Group meet Faversham car park, Bank Street ME13 8PR, at 10.00am. Ham Marshes to the Shipwrights Arms and back to Faversham.

Hazel Ryan with a talk on the Wildlife of Menorca plus an update on "wildwood" at Herne, our local wildlife centre (bats, dormice etc)
Saturday 19th January 2019 (outdoor).
Oare Marshes. A walk for wildfowl, waders, raptors etc on our local reserve. Meet at 9:30am in Oare March car park. ME13 8QA Grid ref TR 013 647.

John Buckingham with a talk on Birds and other Wildlife of Kerula, India.

Oare Gunpowder Works. A trip to another local area of interest for wintering birds and early plants, snowdrops and Lesser Celandine. Meet at 9:30am in Oare Gunpowder Works car park off Bysing Wood road. TR 001 622

Paul Hale with a talk on the Winter Wildlife of Northern Japan.
Sunday 24th March 2019 (outdoor).
Blean Woods RSPB Reserve (Church Woods) for wintering woodland birds (poss Lesser Spotted Woodpecker) plants and early butterflies. Meet at 9:30am at reserve car park TR 122 594. Access is in Rough Common Village, turn left at the bus shelter/Ross Gardens CT29BY and take track through woods to car park.

Don Wilks with a talk on the Butterflies and Orchids of North Kent.

Spuckles Wood. A visit for Bluebells, Early Purple Orchids, Cowslips, Hellebores etc in a lovely ancient woodland area. Meet at 9.30 at wood, park along Thorneycroft Road, Stalisfield Green TQ 526 596.
Saturday 4th May 2019 (outdoor).
Conyer Creek. A walk for Nightingales, Warblers, Cuckoos, Turtledoves, Butterflies and plants etc. Meet at 9.30am, park on the left of the Quay, Conyer before the Ship pub ME9 9HL. TQ 962 648
Tuesday 14th May 2019 (indoor).
Brian Nobbs with a talk on Feathers, their Function and Colouring. A semi scientific talk with many interesting facts and stunning bird pictures.

Stodmarsh for migrant birds, spring plants and early insects. Meet in reserve car park at 9:30am TR 221 609. Access is via track alongside the Red Lion pub in Stodmarsh Village CT3 4BE

Faversham Creek. An evening walk alongside the creek plus a social evening hour or so in the Shipwrights Arms. Meet at 7pm in the Shipwrights Arms car park, TR 017 636 ME13 7TU.

Oare Gunpowder Works. A walk for general interest and watching the Bats over the lakes and around the visitor centre. Meet at 7pm in the Gunpowder Works car park off Bysing Wood road TR 001 622.

South Swale. An evening walk for seashore plants and birds of farmland and reedbeds. Meet at 7pm at the carpark along Faversham Road by the Sportsman Pub. TR 062 647

Queendown Warren. A visit to this area of chalk downland for its specialised plants, Autumn Ladies Tresses, Autumn Gentian and the special butterflies, Adonis Blue, Chalkhill Blue of the area. Meet at 9.30am in the reserve car park off Warren Lane, Hartlip. TQ 833 633

Stodmarsh. An afternoon walk for wildfowl and a chance to see Harriers coming into roost in the reedbeds. Meet at 2pm in the reserve car park TR 221 609. Turn at the Red Lion pub CT3 4BA in Stodmarsh, onto the track into the reserve park.

Lower Halstow. A walk round Halstow Creek for wintering birds followed by refreshments and a social get together in the cosy tea rooms on board the Thames Barge "Edith May". Meet at 9:30am, parking in Lapwing Drive, Lower Halstow ME9 0LW. TQ 856 674.
Tuesday 10th December 2019 (outdoor) and Christmas Social
A talk by Barry Wright about the wildlife of China plus the Christmas social, 40 minutes talk followed by 45 minutes social and 30 minutes talk. Alcoholic & non alcoholic refreshments with food are provided.
